Before she figured it out, though, I was always drawn to the writers who employed humor and sarcasm into their stories, often breaking all the "rules" of good writing. My wife pointed out to me that, when I'm just writing an email or for our company newsletter, I pull off the humor (I've actually gotten fan mail for a newsletter about trailer hitches). After 6 unpublished novels, my wife protested that the novels didn't sound like me. They were forced. Which brought me to my first YA novel. I ignored the rules and let the humor and snarkasm flow, just as I'd read in other YA novels. After reading one chapter, my wife did the Lucy Van Pelt "THAT'S IT!" Apparently agents and editors agreed. At my last conference, even the ones who weren't sure about the plot were taken with the sample chapters and requested more. I'm still not sure if I'll traditionally publish or go the indie route, but it's good to have that encouragement. Thank you to all the YA writers who showed me that it's okay to write without boundaries.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16473774179937702258noreply@blogger.com
