0 Claudia Gray, author of SORCERESS, on learning to write each book

SORCERESS is the final book in the Spellcaster series, and we're happy to have Claudia Gray join us to share more about it.

Claudia, what do you hope readers take away from SORCERESS?

More than anything else, I want readers of the SPELLCASTER trilogy to feel like, at this end of this long journey, they've reached a wonderful destination. Nadia, Mateo and Verlaine have been through a lot in their struggle against darkness -- and in some ways this is the darkest thing I've written for YA. But everything the characters have endured has armed them for the epic final battle. Hopefully readers will feel like the trilogy goes out with a bang!

What's your writing ritual like? Do you listen to music? Work at home or in a coffee shop or the library, etc?

I don't have a ritual per se. Honestly, I think those can be dangerous; a helpful routine can too easily become a crutch, at least for me. But I do listen to music most of the time, when I can, and in fact create soundtracks for every single book I write. Listening helps me get in/stay in the mood of the novel. Although I do most of my writing at home, I sometimes head to a coffee shop when I just can't look at the same four walls any longer.

What advice would you most like to pass along to other writers?

The advice I wish someone had passed on to me: Every book is different. Every book presents its own challenges. Nobody ever learns "how to write a book," because you have to learn how to write *each book,* all over again, every single time. At first I found this discouraging, but now I've grown to enjoy the process of evolving and discovering each novel.
