He made me tap into my emotions and mine them - I never realised how autobiographical my stories are, despite being fantasy. I really recommend his book.<br />As for a book I loved, 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' by Patrick Ness. Wow. Unusual, unique, individual.Penhttp://www.penclements.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-12665389969442314752012-06-15T02:49:42.393-04:002012-06-15T02:49:42.393-04:00One can heed the old adage: Practice makes perfect...One can heed the old adage: Practice makes perfect! The more one writes, the better one gets at it. A famous golfer, called Gary Player, is one of the world's top golfers. When someone commented how lucky he was to be so successful, his reply was: "Yes, and the more I practise, the luckier I get!"Fiona Ingramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12858421058191075567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-83052661997243525232012-06-14T18:43:34.625-04:002012-06-14T18:43:34.625-04:00Excellent advice. I've seen other books that make me drool and aspire to write as well as they are written, too. :)Carol Riggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14092209912983783974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-77615161459512321672012-06-14T12:33:22.628-04:002012-06-14T12:33:22.628-04:00It's so true. I get bogged down in writing advice that sometimes it's best just to shut it all out and read and write.Pattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00685341739870191402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-10424560691172440002012-06-14T12:14:25.471-04:002012-06-14T12:14:25.471-04:00I have a very similar approach to writing and I fi...I have a very similar approach to writing and I find reading too many craft books muddies my mind and paralyzes my fingers. I do learn more from reading great fiction, but that's just me. I know everyone is different. I tend to like sort of straightforward writing that doesn't go the darkest shade of purple yet has some sprinklings of interesting phrases mixed with the vital info.Michele Shawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16768815750264631798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-37772754315687285402012-06-14T10:00:30.583-04:002012-06-14T10:00:30.583-04:00When I first heard the advice write, write, write ...When I first heard the advice write, write, write and read, read, read when I was just starting off I kinda scoffed at it as in how could that help. But over the years I've now come to the conclusion that this is the best way to improve. Just gaining head knowledge doesn't always transfer over to writing; but for me, seeing that in action in a published novel does wonders.Laura Paulinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06503090226508079501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-43328430206038620082012-06-14T08:10:00.370-04:002012-06-14T08:10:00.370-04:00Thank you for this. I've read so many great books that inspire me to be a better writer - starting with good old Anne of Green Gables way back when! :)Jemi Fraserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02214408467456320167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8005062827798430682.post-56643439541142139402012-06-14T06:51:30.782-04:002012-06-14T06:51:30.782-04:00Great post Elana.
