In their lovely review, Booklist described KAT AND MEG CONQUER THE WORLD as appealing to "Gamer gals, devotees of Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl (2013), and members of John and Hank Green’s nerdfighters," which I think is a fairly accurate (and flattering) summary. It's for readers who love nerdy, humorous, heart-warming stories.
If you like KAT AND MEG CONQUER THE WORLD, I strongly recommend Lianne Oelke's NICE TRY, JANE SINNER, which comes out in January 2018, and which is one of the funniest, most delightful books I have ever read.
What do you hope readers will take away from KAT AND MEG CONQUER THE WORLD?
Being a geek is awesome. Gaming is awesome. Gaming as a girl is awesome. Friendship is awesome.
And also that I use the word awesome too much.
What's your writing ritual like? Do you listen to music? Work at home or at a coffee shop or the library, etc?
My favourite place to write is on my balcony on my porch swing, with a notebook and pen and classical renditions of pop music playing in my headphones. But I live in a part of Canada where it snows seven months of the year, so most of the time I'm in my knitting room in my burnt orange comfy chair or in my basement office at my desk, typing up the thousands of words I've scribbled out by hand.
ABOUT THE BOOKKat and Meg Conquer the World
by Anna Priemaza
For fans of Nicola Yoon’s Everything, Everything, Emery Lord’s When We Collided, and Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Anna Priemaza’s debut novel is a heartwarming and achingly real story of finding a friend, being a fan, and defining your place in a difficult world.
Kat and Meg couldn’t be more different. Kat’s anxiety makes it hard for her to talk to people. Meg hates being alone, but her ADHD keeps pushing people away. But when the two girls are thrown together for a year-long science project, they discover they do have one thing in common: They’re both obsessed with the same online gaming star and his hilarious videos.
It might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship—if they don’t kill each other first.
