0 Shani Petroff, author of ROMEO & WHAT'S HER NAME, on how she has always loved the stage

We're delighted to have Shani Petroff here to dish with us about her latest novel ROMEO & WHAT'S HER NAME.

Shani, what was your inspiration for writing ROMEO & WHAT'S HER NAME?

I've always loved theater and being on stage and thought it would be fun to write about. This particular story stems back to a French poetry recitation contest I was a part of in high school where I didn't memorize the poem before having to deliver it. It was totally embarrassing, but something I can laugh about now!

How long did you work on ROMEO & WHAT'S HER NAME?

In a way years! I started it ages ago. It was originally a short story. I always wanted to turn it into a full length book but wasn't sure how I wanted the story to end. Then years later, the ending came to me, and I was able to write the book very quickly!

What are you working on now?

I finished MY NEW CRUSH GAVE TO ME, a holiday romantic comedy that revolves around a Secret Santa exchange. It was a lot of fun to write and will come out on Halloween. Now I'm putting the final touches on a romantic comedy due out February 2018 where a girl gets stuck in the airport with the guy who broke her heart.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Romeo & What's Her Name
by Shani Petroff
Paperback
Swoon Reads
Released 2/7/2017

Understudies never get to perform.

. . . which is why being Juliet's understudy in the school's yearly "Evening with Shakespeare" is the perfect role for Emily. She can earn some much-needed extra credit while pursuing her main goal of spending time with Wes, aka Romeo, aka the hottest, nicest guy in school (in her completely unbiased opinion). And she meant to learn her lines, really, it's just:
a) Shakespeare is HARD,
b) Amanda, aka the "real" Juliet, makes her run errands instead of lines, and
c) there's no point because Amanda would never miss the chance to be the star of the show.

Then, Amanda ends up in the hospital and Emily, as the (completely unprepared!) understudy, has to star opposite the guy of her dreams. Oops?
