The Summer of Firsts and Lasts

Ultracompetitive Brynn from The Summer of Firsts and Lasts craves swimming victory—and gets in over her head—in this irresistible novel from Terra Elan McVoy.
Nothing else matters to Brynn as she trains her body and mind to win. Not her mediocre grades and lack of real friends at school. Not the gnawing grief over her fallen hero father. Not the strained relationship with her absent mother and clueless stepdad. In the turquoise water, swimming is an escape and her ticket to somewhere—anywhere—else. And nothing will get in her way of claiming victory.
But when the competitive streak follows Brynn out of the pool in a wickedly seductive cat-and-mouse game between herself, her wild best friend, and a hot new college swimmer, Brynn’s single-mindedness gets her in over her head, with much more than a trophy to lose.
Author Question: What is your favorite thing about In Deep?
I have many favorites about IN DEEP -including that in it I revisited a character from my third book, THE SUMMER OF FIRSTS AND LASTS-- but my favorite of all about IN DEEP is Brynn's voice. She's so confident, judgmental and aloof on the surface, but underneath she has all these fears and tendernesses. It was a good writing challenge to make sure both came out.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Zom-B Clans?
The twists near the end! Zom-B Clans starts with a huge battle scene that would be the finishing point for most books. Then it goes on to fill in some crucial backstory elements that have been a mystery up until this point, before I throw in a couple of massive twists in the end stretch that will leave readers writhing with anticipation until they get their hands on book 9, Zom-B Family, in October!

Through To You
by Lauren Barnholdt
Opposites attract—and then complicate—in this romantic, relatable novel from the author of Two-way Street and Sometimes It Happens.
It starts with a scribbled note in class: I like your sparkle. Harper had casually threaded a piece of blue and silver tinsel through her ponytail in honor of school spirit day. And that carefree, corny gesture is what grabs Penn Mattingly’s eye. Penn—resident heartbreaker of the senior class. Reliably unreliable. Trouble with a capital “T.” And okay, smolderingly sexy.
Harper’s surprised by Penn’s attention—and so is Penn. The last thing he needs is a girlfriend. Or even a friend-with-benefits. The note is not supposed to lead to anything.
Oh, but it does. They hang out. They have fun. They talk. They make out. And after a while, it seems like they just click. But Penn and Harper have very different ideas about what relationships look like, in no small part because of their very different family backgrounds. Of course they could talk about these differences—if Penn knew how to talk about feelings.
Harper and Penn understand their attraction is illogical, yet something keeps pulling them together. It’s like a crazy roller coaster—exhilarating, terrifying, and amazing all at once. And neither knows how to stop the ride…

The Half Life of Molly Pierce
by Katrina Leno
You take it for granted. Waking up. Going to school, talking to your friends. Watching a show on television or reading a book or going out to lunch.
You take for granted going to sleep at night, getting up the next day, and remembering everything that happened to you before you closed your eyes.
You live and you remember.
Me, I live and I forget.
But now—now I am remembering.
For all of her seventeen years, Molly feels like she’s missed bits and pieces of her life. Now, she’s figuring out why. Now, she’s remembering her own secrets. And in doing so, Molly uncovers the separate life she seems to have led…and the love that she can’t let go.
The Half Life of Molly Pierce is a suspenseful, evocative psychological mystery about uncovering the secrets of our pasts, facing the unknowns of our futures, and accepting our whole selves.
Author Question: What is your favorite thing about The Half Life of Molly Pierce?
The first line! Although it’s not even necessarily my favorite LINE of the book, it’s definitely my favorite THING of the book. I’m just really happy that the first line I wrote is still the first line of the book. It was important for me that didn’t change! I spoke the line into my phone’s recording app while driving down Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn, and although I had no idea where this story was going to take me, I knew it would all unfold from that first sentence. And it did! So I’m glad the first line is the first line. It started everything.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Unravel?
Because UNRAVEL is the sequel to LINKED, which came out last year, my favorite thing about it is seeing the adventure continue! There's more danger, more suspense, and more romance, and I loved being able to pursue the characters' development through another book.
