1 Wish I'd Written by Justina Ireland

I love reading and there’s nothing more awesome than reading a book and thinking “Wow, why didn’t I think of this?” So here, in no particular order, are three books that I totally wish I’d written:

Control by Lydia Kang: Science! Romance! A near future world where DNA is bought and sold on the black market! This book is so great. I was lucky enough to read it as an ARC, and I’m still anxiously waiting for the sequel. This book isn’t dystopian, but it has a definite sci-fi bend a la Total Recall and other near future stories. Bonus points for this book being by a person of color AND featuring a main character living with a congenital disorder. Yay, diversity!

Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn: Do you like creepy stories with a side of quirky romance? This story has both in spades. It also has a straight razor carved with girl’s names, a main character that can’t remember who she is, and enough eerie creepiness to make you sleep with all of the lights on. Loved this story.

Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano: This publishes in March and it should definitely be on your radar. Nearly is a great character and this is a smart mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. Bonus points for the great and oh so accurate description of life in a trailer park (from personal experience, Elle nails it).

About The Book

Zephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy. She’d rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. But all that changes when her sister is murdered—and she uses a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate.

Zephyr is on the run from a punishment worse than death when an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend (a surprisingly HOT friend) changes everything. Because it seems like Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess made flesh that is prophesied to change the power balance. For hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that.

But how is she supposed to save everyone when she can’t even save herself?

  1. Promise of Shadows sounds absolutely terrific. The mini-synopsis starts out pretty funny, but turns dark in a hurry. That's a delicate balance. I admire her taking that on. I'll definitely check it out.
