Hey everyone! It’s Clara Kensie, back with a new Question of the Week! Pretty much the only thing writers love as much as writing is talking about writing. So each week here at Adventures in YA Publishing, I post a question for you to answer. The questions cover all topics important to writers: craft, career, writers’ life, reading and books. Together we’ll become better writers by sharing tips and discussing our habits and practices.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
December 22, 2013
Happy holidays, AYAP friends! I know everyone is super-busy with holiday celebrations, so I’ll keep the QotW short and sweet:
What writerly things are on your holiday wishlist?
MY ANSWER: I would love a new laptop, something lighter and faster than the heavy thing I lug around now. But the writerly thing I want most isn’t something you can wrap. I want time. Uninterrupted writing time. I constantly daydream about going away for a week, all by myself, to a comfy cabin or even a hotel room, with just my laptop. No phone, no TV, no wifi. I would wear my favorite slipper socks, pajama pants and oversized hoodies, munch on simple, yummy snacks, and have a writing marathon. I bet I could write or revise half a manuscript in that week. This is the only thing I asked my family for this year: a solitary writing retreat.
WHAT ABOUT YOU? What writerly things are on your holiday wishlist?
I've had many times when I thought that if I could just get away for a weekend alone, I could get so much writing done, so yes - I'm with you on this one!
ReplyDeleteIn general, I need more time in my day. This holiday I am rewriting my MS from past tense to present tense...a time-consuming task that might kill me.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you. I just want more time to write. It's a constant struggle to find time to write with working and raising a family.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I would love a subscription to Writers Digest Magazine.

Great reviews. The ability to write faster. The ability to read faster (so I can read more books in and out of my genre). Those three things pretty much make it to the top of my list. :)
ReplyDelete...to post my "gone writing" sign on my door and spend dedicated time writing without distractions (sometimes I loose focus without any help at all).
ReplyDeleteMy wish is that my audio book is available before Christmas. That would be a miracle, indeed. MAYBE it'll be available by New Year's.
ReplyDeleteI want a publishing contract. LOL Also, uninterrupted time to write would be great too, although I know I have more time than a lot of other writers since I don't have a day/other job. Hope you get your week retreat! :)
ReplyDeleteMore time and greater discipline. Is that too much to ask? (sigh) I've often thought of making my own retreat and just renting a room near the coast where I can hear the waves crashing for four or five days. That would be enough.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone gets their wishes! Looks like most of us want more time to write.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to report that I will probably get my writing retreat! And I won't have to spend any money to do it! My mom and stepdad live about 30 minutes away, and they are going out of town in a few weeks. I'm going to stay at their house! Just me and my laptop. I won't be able to stay an entire week, probably just for two days, but I will make the most of those two days!
