15 Win HORIZON by Alyson Noel plus YA Pick and Mix 11/2/13

A Little Halloween Weirdness

So I turned in my line-edits on Thursday morning. YAY! And it was only after I hit the send button that I realized I turned in my first round on Friday the 13th, and my second round on Halloween. I guess it's a good thing that the book has ghosts and magic and things that go bump in the night. I'm taking this as a good omen. Another good omen is that Alyssa let me know last night that BEHOLDEN is up on Goodreads. I'm pretty sure that wasn't my publisher's doing, and it wasn't mine, so how does that happen?

My final round of edits starts on Monday, so I'm taking a breather this weekend to pack for YALLFEST, which is going to be AMA-ZING! And I'm reading. And sleeping. And working on a super-secret project that I can't wait to share with you. But lets just stay that it involves Jennifer Armentrout, Claudia Gray, Bree Despain, Tracy Clark, Kimberley Griffiths Little, Shannon Greenland, Lee Bross, Sara Raasch, Nina Berry, and moi. And it is going to kick A$$. So get ready!

I've been reading my book for so long, I'm WAY behind in my reading. What do you recommend?

A Couple of Workshops

The November First Five Pages workshop starts at noon 11/2/13. I'm super excited to have Stephanie Kuehn as the guest mentor. Steph is the author of the fabulous CHARM AND STRANGE. So get your manuscripts ready!

I had a wonderful time in Dallas last weekend teaching a workshop on social networking, branding, and more. The North Texas SCBWI chapter ROCKS!

Young Adult Novel Giveaway Last  Week

RED by Alison Cherry

Winner: Vivien Propst

Felicity St. John has it all—loyal best friends, a hot guy, and artistic talent. And she’s right on track to win the Miss Scarlet pageant. Her perfect life is possible because of just one thing: her long, wavy, coppery red hair.

Having red hair is all that matters in Scarletville. Redheads hold all the power—and everybody knows it. That’s why Felicity is scared down to her roots when she receives an anonymous note:

I know your secret.

Because Felicity is a big fake. Her hair color comes straight out of a bottle. And if anyone discovered the truth, she’d be a social outcast faster than she could say "strawberry blond." Her mother would disown her, her friends would shun her, and her boyfriend would dump her. And forget about winning that pageant crown and the prize money that comes with it—money that would allow her to fulfill her dream of going to art school.

Felicity isn’t about to let someone blackmail her life away. But just how far is she willing to go to protect her red cred?

Young Adult Quote of the Week

There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater.

But sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life.

That is the sort of bravery I must have now.

~ Veronica Roth, Allegiant
