The bottom line, all writers, all human beings, have doubt. I wish I could say I had less doubt now than I did when I was fifteen, or seventeen, or before I got a book deal. I think I just have different doubts. And you know what? I think that's okay. For the first time in my life, I'm at peace with doubt. I'm going to embrace it. Doubt gives me the kick in the a$$ I need to push myself.
I have a new trick I'm going to try to play on doubt. I bought the supplies for it today. Look for some photos next week. :)
But I said I had two pieces of good news, didn't I? My second piece is that YASeriesInsiders.com is finally alive and doing well. Here's a list of all the fabulous giveaways we're offering around the web to celebrate.

Winner: Chi Shannon
In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .
But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure--and re-education--looms larger than ever.
Pulses will race throughout this thrilling fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

ReplyDeleteCongrats Congrats LOTS OF CONFETTI IN THE AIR!! It's a huge moment for you but also for us readers as we're closer to reading your book:))
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's good to always be a little scared to start a new book, because it means you're still hoping and wanting and working towards writing the absolute best book you can. Which will only lead to greatness:)) But it's good you've got a way to keep the nerves in check as well:))
I'm reading Sarah Ockler's The Book of Broken Hearts and I'm loving it!! With Christmas coming soon, I'm into a contemporary phase, and it's one of those books with awesome characters and real issues that give you hope. If you're looking for an amazing YA contemporary to read for the holidays, try Dash and Lily's Book of Dares - you'll love it:)
Thank you so very much:)
Thank you so much, Christina! I think you're probably right that it's good to be a bit scared. I definitely want to write the best book I can. I suspect it's both an advantage and a disadvantage to know the story and that characters as well as I do and to love them so much. I think that's what scares me the most--fearing that I can't do them justice in the second book. But on the other hand, the story I have mapped out is AMAZING. Better than the first in so many ways. It's just going to be up to me to make the characters as big as that story.
DeleteI loved Sarah's book. LOVED it. I love all her writing, and I'm so honored and delighted to share a publisher with her. If any of my books ever turned out to be half as beautifully-written as hers, I would be a happy camper. I also loved Dash and Lily's Book of Dares! You have fabulous taste. Have you read FANGIRL yet? Because I suspect you would love that, or ELEANOR AND PARK.
LOVE both Fangirl and Eleanor and Park:)) Hope Rainbow Rowell gives us lots more contemporaries:)))
DeleteCan't wait for your book!!
If you're into fantasy/dystopians try CJ Redwine's Defiance. It's the perfect blend of fast fast plot and really awesome characters.
