7 Character Bucket List: Alex Lidell plus Swag Giveaway

Korish Savoy and Renee de Winter from THE CADET OF TILDOR

Alex Lidell: Hello, Renee and Korish. So, the question Adventures in YA Publishing wants me to ask you is this: "what do you want to do before you die?"

Korish Savoy: Kill the other guy.

Alex Lidell: I think it's a more general question, Korish. What in general would you like to accomplish in life?

(Savoy cocks an eyebrow)

Renee: He isn't big on introspection.

Alex Lidell: I know, but this isn't meant to be a soul searching inquiry. (sigh) How about you, Renee?

Renee: I don't much want to die.

Korish Savoy: good plan.

Alex Lidell: Alright, let's try this another way. What are some things that you would really enjoy doing or else would like to see happen? For example, I bet Seaborn would like to see the end of mage registration.

Korish Savoy: I'd still like to kill the other guy.

Alex Lidell: Any particular guy?

Korish Savoy: Whoever is trying to kill me. There isn't a shortage on that front.

Alex Lidell: Occupational hazard?

Korish Savoy: My job generally involves sticking a pointy mental thing into other people. So, yes, you can say that.

Renee: I'd like to see the Crown's forces strong enough that no one has to pay tribute for protection to crime groups. ... and...

Alex Lidell: And?

Renee: And I want to lead my own fighter unit. Someday, I mean. Not just lead, but lead really well.

Korish Savoy: Good to hear you don't wish to lead really poorly.

(Alex rubs her forehead) Korish, you realize I'm the author, right? Do you really want to be on my bad side?

Korish Savoy: I've survived thus far.

Renee: I know one think I wager he wants: to ride the fastest horse in Tildor.

Alex Lidell: Preferably one that he has permission to get on...

Renee: Preferably.

Alex Lidell: Alright, I'll take that. Thanks both of you. Or at least, Renee.

(Renee bows) Our pleasure.

(Savoy leans his chair back, balancing it on its hind legs)

... hey, at least he showed up for the interview, right?

About the Book

There is a new king on the throne of Tildor. Currents of political unrest sweep the country as two warring crime families seek power, angling to exploit the young Crown's inexperience. At the Academy of Tildor, Cadet Renee de Winter fights to maintain her spot as an elite soldier in training—with no help from her instructor, a notorious commander recalled from active duty. But when an underground crime lord goes too far, Renee and her best friend Alec are thrust into a world rife with crime and conspiracy, struggling between what they want, what is lawful, and what is right.

  1. Just want to say how much I loved Alex's book. Renee is such a great character. I'm reviewing it and giving it away at Literary Rambles on Monday with my Ask The Expert interview with a teen.

So hoping there's more to this series and would love more between Renee and Savoy.
