Martina and Jan

by Tracy Deebs
Signed Hardcover

Pandora's just your average teen-glued to her cell phone and laptop, surfing Facebook and e-mailing with her friends-until the day her long-lost father sends her a link to a mysterious site featuring twelve photos of her as a child. Unable to contain her curiosity, Pandora enters the site, where she is prompted to play her favorite virtual-reality game, Zero Day. This unleashes a global computer virus that plunges the whole world into panic: suddenly, there is no Internet. No cell phones. No utilities, traffic lights, hospitals, law enforcement. Pandora teams up with handsome stepbrothers Eli and Theo to enter the virtual world of Zero Day. Simultaneously, she continues to follow the photographs from her childhood in an attempt to beat the game and track down her father-her one key to saving the world as we know it. Part The Matrix, part retelling of the Pandora myth, Doomed has something for gaming fans, dystopian fans, and romance fans alike.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Doomed?

This is actually a hard question for me to answer simply because I both really love and really hate this book. Doomed was the hardest book I've ever written (and I've written 27) and I cursed it every day I was writing it-- and every day for six months after it was done. But it's also the book I am most proud of. If I have to choose one thing that I love about the book now that it's finished, it's my three main characters. I think Pandora is a kick-ass female heroine who is trying to do her best to undo her mistakes even as the world falls apart around her. Theo and Eli, who are my modern day take on the Titans Prometheus and Epimetheus, are also really strong in the face of continuing adversity. Both play a huge part in the Pandora myth and in Doomed. It was a challenge to capture their personalities for 2012 as depicted in the myths about them, but I'm really pleased with how they turned out (especially Theo, who I think is an awesome YA hero). I really hope my readers agree :)

Then You Were Gone
by Lauren Strasnick
Signed Hardcover

In the tradition of 13 Reasons Why, a suspenseful and heart-wrenching novel from the author of Nothing Like You and Her and Me and You.
Two years ago, Adrienne’s best friend walked out of her life. One week ago, she left Adrienne a desperate, muffled voicemail. Adrienne never called back.

Now Dakota is missing. She left behind a string of broken hearts, a flurry of rumors, and a suicide note.

Adrienne can’t stop obsessing over what might have happened if she’d answered Dakota’s call. And she’s increasingly convinced that Dakota must still be alive.

Maybe finding and saving Dakota is the only way Adrienne can save herself.

Or maybe it’s too late for them both.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Then You Were Gone?

Writing this book was therapeutic -- I got to work out some massive envy issues surrounding the world of rock and its performers and writers. When I started in on this story I was completely obsessed with the power of song -- how three minutes of music can literally undo a person! As a novelist, I'm envious of that -- the ability to move millions with pretty vocals, a catchy chorus and a couple of choice chords! Such jealousy! I am a huge music lover and have obsessed over many a musician in my lifetime -- this book helped me exorcise a demon or two. I'm a much more balanced individual, having written it. Really truly.

Anatomy of a Single Girl
by Daria Snadowsky
Signed Hardcover

With Judy Blume-like honesty and insight, this sequel to Anatomy of a Boyfriend is about life after first love--romance, sex, friendship, family, and the ups and downs of life as a single girl.
After everything that happened—my first boyfriend, my first time, my first breakup—jumping back into the dating game seemed like the least healthy thing I could do. It’s not that I didn’t want to fall in love again, since that’s about the best feeling ever. But as a busy college premed still raw from heartbreak, which is the worst feeling ever, I figured I’d lie low for a while. Of course, as soon as I stopped looking for someone, an impossibly amazing—and devastatingly cute—guy came along, and I learned that having a new boyfriend is the quickest way to recover from losing your old one.
The moment we got together, all my preconceptions about romance and sex were turned upside down. I discovered physical and emotional firsts I never knew existed. I learned to let go of my past by living in the present. It was thrilling. It was hot. It was just what the doctor ordered.
But I couldn’t avoid my future forever.

In Daria Snadowsky’s daring follow-up to Anatomy of a Boyfriend, eighteen-year-old Dominique explores the relationship between love and lust, and the friendships that see us through.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Anatomy of a Single Girl?

I have three favorite things! 1) The love scenes. As with Anatomy of a Boyfriend, nothing’s sensationalized or glossed over, and they show teen intimacy in all its awkwardness, hilarity, solemnity, and magic. 2) The realism. In her quest for a “happily ever after” ending, Dominique instead experiences life as a series of “and then, what?” transitions. 3) The continuity with the first book. Both Anatomy of a Boyfriend and Anatomy of a Single Girl work as stand-alone titles, but you can read them back-to-back with it feeling seamless, as if they’re two volumes of the same novel.

The Fire Horse Girl
by Kay Honeyman
Signed Hardcover

Winner: Riv Re

A fiery and romantic adventure, perfect for fans of Grace Lin, Kristen Cashore, or Lisa See!

Jade Moon is a Fire Horse -- the worst sign in the Chinese zodiac for girls, said to make them stubborn, willful, and far too imaginative. But while her family despairs of marrying her off, she has a passionate heart and powerful dreams, and wants only to find a way to make them come true.

Then a young man named Sterling Promise comes to their village to offer Jade Moon and her father a chance to go to America. While Sterling Promise's smooth manners couldn't be more different from her own impulsive nature, Jade Moon falls in love with him on the long voyage. But America in 1923 doesn't want to admit many Chinese, and when they are detained at Angel Island, the "Ellis Island of the West," she discovers a betrayal that destroys all her dreams. To get into America, much less survive there, Jade Moon will have to use all her stubbornness and will to break a new path . . . one as brave and dangerous as only a Fire Horse girl can imagine.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about The Fire Horse Girl?

The character Jade Moon is my favorite thing about the book. While she is rooted in her historical time and culture, there is also something wonderfully familiar about her. I think a lot of us have a little bit of Fire Horse girl inside us.

The Cadet of Tildor
by Alex Lidell

Tamora Pierce meets George R. R. Martin in this smart, political, medieval fantasy-thriller.

There is a new king on the throne of Tildor. Currents of political unrest sweep the country as two warring crime families seek power, angling to exploit the young Crown's inexperience. At the Academy of Tildor, the training ground for elite soldiers, Cadet Renee de Winter struggles to keep up with her male peers. But when her mentor, a notorious commander recalled from active duty to teach at the Academy, is kidnapped to fight in illegal gladiator games, Renee and her best friend Alec find themselves thrust into a world rife with crime, sorting through a maze of political intrigue, and struggling to resolve what they want, what is legal, and what is right.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about The Cadet of Tildor?

My favorite aspect of THE CADET OF TILDOR are the ethical dilemmas. I had great fun in writing them and now, as I am hearing back from ARC readers, I am having even more fun discussing the issues and listening in on the various opinions. When writing the dilemmas, I tried hard to give both sides of issues a fair shot so that the characters and readers can decide for themselves what is right and wrong.

Outside the story, my favorite part of having CADET out in the world is dialogue with readers. Different writers write for different reasons. For me, the coolest part of publishing a book is getting to discuss the story with others, finding out what readers think of Renee and Savoy's (the MCs) decisions and actions, and hearing what scenes evoked the strongest emotions or thoughts.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Salvation?

Salva. And then Beth. And then Salva. And then Beth. And then—

I always love my characters the best because they are the ones who tell the story.

Salva (Salvador) Resendez is a brilliant young man who hovers just beyond the center of the spotlight. He is student council president, quarterback of the football team, and has a near perfect GPA. His Mexican immigrant family has high expectations and Salva intends to fulfill them. But instead of embracing his ability to lead, he allows his friends to direct his inner compass.

Until he collides with Beth Courant, AKA the walking disaster area. Beth—disorganized, intelligent, and dreamy—may be his salvation. But what neither Salva nor Beth knows is that the cost of salvation is mortality.

I love Salva because he is driven, ethical, dedicated. And torn between all the choices he has tomake. And I love Beth because of her heart. She is honest, passionate, incredibly sensitive. And she can’t stand to see Salva hover just below spectacular. Or to hover there herself.

by A.E. Rought
Paperback Original

Imagine a modern spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein where a young couple’s undying love and the grief of a father pushed beyond sanity could spell the destruction of them all.

A string of suspicious deaths near a small Michigan town ends with a fall that claims the life of Emma Gentry’s boyfriend, Daniel. Emma is broken, a hollow shell mechanically moving through her days. She and Daniel had been made for each other, complete only when they were together. Now she restlessly wanders the town in the late Fall gloom, haunting the cemetary and its white-marbled tombs, feeling Daniel everywhere, his spectre in the moonlight and the fog.

When she encounters newcomer Alex Franks, only son of a renowned widowed surgeon, she’s intrigued despite herself. He’s an enigma, melting into shadows, preferring to keep to himself. But he is as drawn to her as she is to him. He is strangely…familiar. From the way he knows how to open her locker when it sticks, to the nickname she shared only with Daniel, even his hazel eyes with brown flecks are just like Daniel’s. The closer they become, though, the more something inside her screams there’s something very wrong with Alex Franks.

And when Emma stumbles across a grotesque and terrifying menagerie of mangled but living animals within the walls of the Franks’ estate, creatures she surely knows must have died from their injuries, she knows.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Broken?

That's a tough question! If I had to pick one thing about Broken and call it my favorite, it would have to be Alex. With all the ways I twisted and tortured him, he's still such a good guy. His life is in turmoil, he's not feeling himself, but he has a strong sense of what really matters and how much he would sacrifice to make things right.

Cleopatra Ascending (A Shadow's Edge Novel)
by Maureen Lipinski
Paperback Original

Sweet Sixteen = You’re a Queen
Despite living with a shaman, a witch, and a muse for sisters, Rhea Spencer feels like a normal teenager—even if she is the reincarnation of Cleopatra. But all that changes on Rhea’s sixteenth birthday, when her visions of the Egyptian queen start unraveling a very different version of history, and Declan, a hot representative of the secret Order of Antony, shows up on the doorstep to keep her from being kidnapped. Together, Rhea and Declan travel to Egypt to stop the Octavians, a dark cabal trying to tap into Rhea’s growing powers. The cabal seeks to access the magic deep below the desert sands, a potentially devastating force that only Rhea can protect.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Cleopatra Ascending?
My favorite thing about CLEOPATRA ASCENDING is the Egyptian history. To research this book, I spent hours reading about Cleopatra and the ancient Egyptian world, something that I found really enjoyable. Ancient Egyptians were surprisingly modern--they used cosmetics such as face cream, had private bathrooms and used mirrors when dressing. Women also benefited from forward-thinking (for the time) attitudes about holding land and education. I think although Cleopatra lived thousands of years ago, we will never stop being fascinated by her story.
