She's wrong.

But the next morning, it was all still true: Chris was dead. His girlfriend Adriane, Nora's best friend, was catatonic. And Max, Nora's sweet, smart, soft-spoken Prince Charming, was gone. He was also—according to the police, according to her parents, according to everyone—a murderer.

Desperate to prove his innocence, Nora follows the trail of blood, no matter where it leads. It ultimately brings her to the ancient streets of Prague, where she is drawn into a dark web of secret societies and shadowy conspirators, all driven by a mad desire to possess something that might not even exist. For buried in a centuries-old manuscript is the secret to ultimate knowledge and communion with the divine; it is said that he who controls the Lumen Dei controls the world. Unbeknownst to her, Nora now holds the crucial key to unlocking its secrets. Her night of blood is just one piece in a puzzle that spans continents and centuries. Solving it may be the only way she can save her own life.

Now in the care of his wild Uncle Kosh, Tucker begins to suspect that the disks of shimmering air he keeps seeing - one right on top of the roof - hold the answer to restoring his family. And when he dares to step into one, he's launched on a time-twisting journey

RADIANT DAYS by Elizabeth Hand

It is 1978. Merle is in her first year at the Corcoran School of Art, catapulted from her impoverished Appalachian upbringing into a sophisticated, dissipated art scene.

It is also 1870. The teenage poet Arthur Rimbaud is on the verge of breaking through to the images and voice that will make his name.

The meshed power of words and art thins the boundaries between the present and the past—and allows these two troubled, brilliant artists to enter each other’s worlds.

    1. Isn't "unbecoming" a great word? And even the character name is suggestive of danger, isn't it?

      Thanks for stopping by!

  9. I wish THE BOOK OF BLOOD AND SHADOW had a more compelling cover b/c it SOUNDS phenomenal but that cover does nothing for me. I know I know, but I'm not judging the book by the cover, really! I totally plan to still get it :)

    1. I agree with you Lori. I feel like the cover doesn't quite hit the mood of the story or the usual professionalism and beauty of stories of this caliber. Hopefully the book itself will be enough to sell readers.

    1. Mine too. I adored the cover, and once I got to the end of the synopsis I was hooked. Wished they'd brought in the Faerie and the factions and the throne a little sooner in that description. But I'm definitely going to pick it up.
