2 7 Sins and 7 Secrets from Bruce Coville

Freelance editor, children's book lover, and graduate student Bethany Olson provided a succinct recap of Bruce Coville's speech from a 2009 SCBWI conference. Wonderful advice and lots to think about.

Bethany also offers a free critique for the first 10 pages of a children's or YA manuscript along with quotes on editorial services. This is an editor with spunk and drive!

Have a great weekend,

  1. Thanks Martina!

I enjoyed reading about those sins....the biggest mistake I make is to try and get it right the first time - a huge time waster I know!

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  2. LOL! My secret sin? I rewrite my first three chapters about five times before I go on to the rest. Of course, by the time I have them rewritten, I know the characters well enough that I am ready to do the complications worksheet and the character worksheets. And then I have to go rewrite the first chapters again anyway. But you know what? That seems to work, so I suspect I'm not going to end up changing the process much.

If you are happy with your process, and enjoying the writing, don't fixate on whether you are wasting time getting it right. Just keep writing!
